For centuries the effect of mankind on the oceans has been non-existent. The oceans were too vast and mankind's footprints were temporary and tiny. In the last 100 years this has changed with the industrial revolution and the population explosion. What were seemingly huge and unchanging expanses of water are now changing. The effect of this will likely to be long lasting and significant as the oceans are part of our ecosystem.
