Yr 9 ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

14 July 2022

From September 2022, middle school students will be assessed based on three 'curriculum competencies', which are broken into two parts.  For year 9, this will use the following statements:

Developing (C)
Proficient (B)
Extending (A)
CC1 - Inquiring
Asks a question or defines a problem that cannot be investigated scientifically.
Asks a question and/or defines a problem that can be investigated scientifically.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the investigation by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
CC1 - Planning
Plans and conducts a scientific investigation without applying the relevant methods and/or using equipment inappropriate for the investigation.
Plans and conducts a scientific investigation applying the relevant methods and using the appropriate equipment.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the investigation by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
CC2 - Data Analysis
Inaccurately represents, analyses, and/or interprets data and/or inaccurately uses year-specific tools.
Represents, analyses and/or interprets data using a range of year-specific tools.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the task/assessment by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
CC2 - Mathematical Routines
Inaccurately applies mathematic representations, processes, concepts and/or tools to identify patterns and/or trends in data sets and/or to support explanations and arguments.
Applies mathematic representations, processes, concepts and/or tools to identify patterns and/or trends in data sets and/or to support explanations and arguments.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the task/assessment by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
CC3 - Modelling
Develops, uses and/or revises a model that cannot be used to describe, test or predict phenomena.
Develops, uses and/or revises a model to describe, test and predict phenomena.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the task/assessment by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
CC3 - Explanations
Constructs an explanation about and/or an argument that does not clarify (explanation) or support or refute (argumentation) a claim.
Construct an explanation about, and/or an argument supporting or refuting a claim that is supported by evidence consistent with scientific ideas, principles and theories.
Independently goes beyond the requirements of/scope of the task/assessment by applying independent research and/or making connections within or between the disciplines.
